It seems to me that it is far more likely that faucet derives from Old Norse "fors" or "foss" which translates as waterfall or and has also come into English as "force". The earliest mention of it comes as fawcett in the Paston Letters in the 15th century from Norwich, an area formerly part of Danelaw if memory serves. The letters were written in Middle English, not a French dialect. Plaasjaapie 19:17, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
