Ysrael, you said that this was being used even before BINI existed. This means this was in use before they popularized this in 2024 (1). Can you do some research how this started before BINI(2)? If not, leave the job to Yivan000 or Mglc. Thank you. Notes : 1 - via their song “Salamin, Salamin” since this was included in its lyrics. 2 - i’m not reffering to when, how, and where the similar shaka sign was invented, but when, how, and where was this first invented Traytraycoco (talk) 02:14, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Traytraycoco hey, do your own research. Google is free to use, whether Google Books or Google News. Also, always use @<username> to notify users or else they won't get a notification ping and you'll be talking to no one. if the few ph editors weren't here to voluntarily check on your edits and didn't have the time to do so, editors and admins from other countries usually aren't as lenient once they spot stuff that shouldn't be in wikt. OK, but I already did some research some time ago (dont know how long ago) and the only thing I found is a Facebook post that had the name “Origin of Eyyy!🤙”. Go to that post and scrutinize it.
Also I have a source for you :

@Traytraycoco
1. I don't know your age but you seem to be belonging to a different generation, eyyy is said in parties, especially rich kids in recent times, or in different songs that just say eyy or hey or whatever variant. Do you really think BINI got eyy out of nowhere? And seriously you haven't heard eyy used before BINI? Such as when someone did awesome or amazing you say "Eyyyyy". Or when in concerts you just say "eyy eyy eyy" meaning "go go go go" (ex. bass drops https://www.youtube.com/shorts/FnAplaCoixs), it's faint but you can hear it. Yes it was used in Salamin Salamin but it wasn't the origin of it.
2. Funny that you saying leave the job to @Yivan000 or @Mlgc1998 when you haven't been very accessible on replies (you haven't replied at all on my messages on your talk page), and they have been correcting your entries as well with me. This is a free dictionary which anyone can correct provided that the reasoning is valid, so expect to be corrected or disputed when you have doubtful inputs. The article just wrote about it because it became a trend when some guy said he would be graduating and Sheena replied "Gagraduate ka na? Eyy ka muna eyy", not because she invented it, then just got associated with her doing the shaka sign. But really eyyy is so common (usually a sound effect in songs, usually sounding like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdeRpf-3yY4) that you can't associate the etymology with BINI. Here's an example of a song with eyy:
Drop It Low - Ester Dean

Iyaz - Replay

Eminem - Godzilla

For the shaka sign, it's like a gang sign that people just use randomly like 🤘 or Bloods
Article:
https://news.abs-cbn.com/entertainment/2024/7/21/bini-s-sheena-hopes-pinoys-eyyyy-their-way-to-good-vibes-1059
"“Nakuha ko talaga ‘yong ‘Eyyy’ sa tropa ko, like, sa Isabela, nagcha-chat siya: ‘Eyyyyy’ hanggang sa nakuha ko. Tapos mayroon kaming staff din here, ‘pag nagmi-meet kami, ‘geng-geng’ gumaganon,” Sheena said."
By her own admission, eyy didn't originate from her nor from BINI. If the only thing that you found is a Facebook post, then maybe you didn't research hard enough. 𝄽 ysrael214 (talk) 04:51, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
yeah, I already heard "eyyy!" before years ago by my coworkers before as well and they sometimes also did that 🤙 or 🤘 two finger shaka hand sign. I thought before it's just another colloquial slang variation of English heyyy! Mlgc1998 (talk) 05:11, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I also heard this earlier this year in my school after me and my classmates took photos after certain programs. (we also did the shaka gesture while shouting “eyyy!”. Traytraycoco (talk) 05:19, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Traytraycoco Just this year, in school? What about 5 years ago, this is used even in 2010s but it wasn't fixed to shaka signs. As we suspected you are young and probably heard eyy only from BINI but know that things may hold true outside of your limited experience and @Mlgc1998 already telling you this existed years ago. It could be eyyy🤙 or eyyy🤘, sometimes even the tongue is out, depends on the mood of the speaker.
"Eyyy ka muna" is literally in Tagalog, what do you mean it cannot Tagalog? Of course it came from "hey" in English, but it's literally like a sound now that doesn't mean like "Hey". or "Ohhhh" "Ahhhh", you can't restrict that in a language. 𝄽 ysrael214 (talk) 05:36, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I’ve never heard ANY of my classmates do “eyyy!” in pictures “eyyy ka muna” last year in my school. It’s just happened this year.
+ I’m in the 6th grade and i was in the 5th grade last year. Traytraycoco (talk) 05:51, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Traytraycoco Yea I sense a generational gap, but this is used already by millenials by early Gen Zs. It seems that Sheena (who also belongs in this generation range) just introduced it to more younger speakers. Besides, you only know people in your school, that is not enough to say that it didn't come before BINI. 𝄽 ysrael214 (talk) 05:56, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Traytraycoco Here's another video in 2022 by PGag Conyo series by Jico Umali (Salamin Salamin wasn't released yet) where eyyy was briefly said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PvYWkEsDKs 𝄽 ysrael214 (talk) 05:50, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Traytraycoco The "eyyyyy" was really really prominent & widespread during the jejemon era around the 2010s. People in jerseys and shades shouting "eyyyy" while doing 🤙. I have literally never heard of BINI popularizing that expression. — 🍕 Yivan000 viewtalk 07:43, 24 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
