Is it current?

Why is eyren under "English" as well as "Middle English", Is eyren a current English word? I thought it died out in English. If it is no longer current then it should only be under "Middle English" and not "English". Thomas Norren (talk) 22:28, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

The principle is sound of course, but was it really in Modern English that it died out? So far at "ey" we have two quotes that are actually Middle English (and should probably be moved). I'd love to see some proper Modern English quotations. 90.186.170.69 19:39, 27 September 2023 (UTC)

@Leasnam Ames' Typographical Antiquities has a story about a housewife and eggs vs. eyren, so it must have been quaint and/or regional in the 1700s...? Equinox ◑ 19:41, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
