Bad definition, clear SOP. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 05:50, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
- Maybe a definition isn't needed if it's a synonym. There is also exosolar planet, which is also asserted to be a synonym of exoplanet. If so, both of them should be kept as synonyms. I won't vote "keep" yet. Donnanz (talk) 12:11, 9 October 2015 (UTC)
- "extrasolar planet" is a common synonym of "exoplanet" ("exosolar planet"). It is perhaps less common now than it was 10 or more years ago though. I would say to keep it, since the terminology of "extra-" vs. "exo-" can be confusing. Nicole Sharp (talk) 04:01, 14 October 2015 (UTC)
- Keep using the lemmings heuristic; Collins has it[1]. As for the definition being "bad" ("Alternative form of exoplanet"); is the definition inaccurate? I changed "An alternative form of" to "Synonym of". --Dan Polansky (talk) 09:35, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- Fine, keep it then. Donnanz (talk) 12:17, 17 October 2015 (UTC)
- The terms exosolar and extrasolar are identically synonymous, using two different prefixes for "outside" a solar system. "Extrasolar" (by analogy of "extraterrestrial") was more common in astronomical literature when extrasolar planets were first discovered. When a small handful of extrasolar planets eventually became hundreds of exoplanets, "exosolar" became more common instead (e.g. "exosolar comets"), possibly a backformation from the term "exoplanet." - Delete SoP, potentially using either sense of extrasolar. DCDuring TALK 09:16, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
