Intransitive and/or transitive?
[edit]Could we please clarify the intent of the definition (with a label!)
- (mathematics) To utilize exponentiation.
Is that intended to be intransitive and/or transitive?
Furthermore, if transitive, what is the usage? For instance, in the case of xⁿ, would we say
- "Let us exponentiate x to obtain xⁿ." and/or
- "Let us exponentiate x to obtain xⁿ."?
Wikipedia's article on exponentiation has two examples of the latter usage. (Possibly it might be elaborated as something like "Let us exponentiate x by n to obtain xⁿ" or "Let us exponentiate x with n to obtain xⁿ".)
I don't think anyone would say, *"Let us exponentiate xⁿ."
Sample sentences in the entry would also help.
