I wasn't convinced by "deterioration" as a synonym, though I can see what was meant - exacerbation is 'of the symptoms' while deterioration is 'of the patient'. I've stuck a synonym I prefer in there, and added what I hope is clarification. I've also included an antonym. Anyone have any thoughts? InelegantSolution 09:41, 12 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Right. It is not a synonym. It is a key element in paraphrases for "exacerbation" of a harm worded in terms of the result for who or what is harmed. It could not be substituted in most uses of "exacerbation", eg, "the exacerbation of the pain". DCDuring TALK 23:15, 20 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
