Pronunciation
[edit]Often in informal American English, short interjections like "ew", "ow",and "no" are pronounced disyllabicly (The word "no" sometimes sounding like the name "Noah") adding an extra schwa at the end of the word: e.g. [ˈnoʊ̯] becomes [ˈnoʊ̯ə], and [aʊ̯] becomes [ˈaʊ̯ə]. Are there any documented sources I can cite to explain this phenomenon in the entries for these words without it being original research?Nayrb Rellimer (talk) 03:10, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
- This is all I could find, but it still wouldn't qualify as a usable source. http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=3426Nayrb Rellimer (talk) 20:11, 30 December 2014 (UTC)
Origin
[edit]Can we add when this expression first appeared in the English language (since that's something users might expect to find in this entry)? 98.123.38.211 01:59, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
