I have never heard of that other meaning. Clearly Etymography is script that denotes etymology. Most scripts are based on phonemes, some on syllables. Etymographies are based on etymons. Suggesting that etymography is not a script but a discipline is absurd. Obviously anything ending in -graphy must be a type of script.

How many people do need to use a certain definition for it to be allowed to be included here?

[edit]

I created an IME for English etymography and German etymography here:

https://skydarmos.github.io/Etymography/

My friend Khoi has created an IME with etymographies for 30 different languages:

https://nguyenvietkhoi.github.io/SinicIME/

If a phonetic writing system is called phonography, and if a syllabic writing system is called syllabary, then what else would you call a writing system that is based on etymons if not etymography?

What is wrong with the admins on this platform?

The other definitions given here seem useless and nonsensical. They don't match the structure of the word. Sky Darmos (talk) 08:50, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Don't make up and promote your own definitions. It's that simple. — SURJECTION / T / C / L / 09:43, 15 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
