Talk:erniedrigen

Maybe "to tone down" is a good current translation for the sense of "softening to not hurt feelings" - this is what I think of if asked to bring "erniedrigen" into "english" consciousness. However - is this Australian English only? - I don't know - but I personally seldom hear, if ever, anyone put this thought into english words in any way other than "to tone down".
