What is the difference between "encontrar" and "reunir", please? - in Spanish?

encontrar means to encounter, meet, find, come across. reunir means to join, unite, assemble, gather, collect, get together, reunite. —Stephen 17:46, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

so encontrar would be more of to run across someone accidentally, whereas reunir would be to know you were meeting them ahead of time?

No, encontrar is used to meet someone, even deliberately. reunir usually entails a group, so a captain could reunir his men. You reunirse (meet) with your friends or with some group. The organizers reunir (assembled) 15,000 fans in the stadium. A study group reunirse (meets) on Thursdays. You can reunir (gather, collect) all of your things so you can leave.
