- Should it be defined as Obsolete spelling of dummy.? — This unsigned comment was added by Vox Sciurorum (talk • contribs) at 11:20, 22 July 2020 (UTC).
- @Vox Sciurorum: Searching “dumbie” in Usenet shows 5458 posts; “a dumbie” shows 310 posts. This word is not obsolete. I also added a 2001 quotation to the “a person who is mute” sense. J3133 (talk) 12:09, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- The 2001 use is in a novel set during the American Civil War, meant to portray writing of that time. It's not evidence that the sense is still alive. At most it makes the sense archaic rather than obsolete. Vox Sciurorum (talk) 12:33, 22 July 2020 (UTC)

- All the citations seem to be dumb in the sense of mute (unable to speak) so the definition probably should be changed to clarify that. "Someone who is dumb" today would more often suggest stupidity. Equinox ◑ 11:34, 22 July 2020 (UTC)
- Surely this should be made either an
{{altform}}
or a{{synonym of}}
the two relevant senses of dummy. - -sche (discuss) 19:49, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
- I changed the definitions to obsolete spelling of the old sense and alternative spelling of the modern sense. One could also consider it a single alternative spelling of a single word. Vox Sciurorum (talk) 20:13, 24 July 2020 (UTC)
- On a procedural note, this has been cited (and is now formatted to point users to the main form/entry). - -sche (discuss) 07:19, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
