- Not really. This means that a person can drink more than would render another person insensible (who would collapse "under the table"). SemperBlotto (talk) 15:36, 30 June 2019 (UTC)

- The OED has :- "colloquial. Drunk to the point of insensibility, esp. in to drink (also put, see, etc.) someone under the table: to outdrink someone; to drink with someone until that person is drunk to the point of insensibility.
