Is it really as general as our definition suggests? Wikipedia and Google Books suggest it only refers to slaves running away. Equinox 20:33, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Since someone changed the def not to be about slaves any more, I have removed the usage note and racism stuff, only applicable to slavery. But I suspect this entry may be wrong. Equinox 20:55, 1 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

Usage notes

[edit]

It says: "Today recognized as pseudoscience and an example of scientific racism." That is indisputably true, but I do wonder whether it's really a "usage note", or just encyclopaedic commentary of some kind. Equinox 09:41, 17 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Please find citations for that general sense, or let's change it to the sense of slaves running away, which seems easily citable. --Daniel Carrero (talk) 00:45, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Yes, there was an older definition that somebody changed. I suspect the older def was more accurate. Equinox 00:48, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
I looked through the entire history of the entry, and cannot find an older def that referred to slaves. I added a separate entry for that sense, and moved the rfv to just the more general sense. I have added a number of cites to the more general entry, none of which are talking about slaves. Kiwima (talk) 04:08, 2 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
