http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/discard says that discard is from card playing, citing dis + card. But the exact opposite is stated on this page. Which is correct? 110.174.14.219 05:09, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
- It is indeed from dis- + card, according to all my sources. The earliest uses of the word are in card games senses. Changed accordingly. Ƿidsiþ 10:49, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Verb: to throw out a card
[edit]This phrasing seems ambiguous. It would be easy (especially for a non-native speaker) to misunderstand "throwing out a card" as dealing, i.e. throwing the card out to a player. How to rephrase? Equinox ◑ 03:49, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
