Etymology
[edit]- digitigrada — from digitus + -gradus; whence French digitigrade, whence English digitigrade
- The earliest I can find this in Latin is 1818. The English dictionaries I have trace digitigrade back to a French construction from Latin roots, but not from a complete Latin word. It is quite possible that the word was coined in French, possibly by one of the Cuvier brothers, and then passed into Latin. --EncycloPetey 04:56, 8 November 2009 (UTC)
