Maybe, but to my knowledge it implies very specifically a characteristic, rather than just the general way one lived. I always interpreted it not to imply that someone died while doing what they did to make a living, but more that they died while doing (usually) what they enjoyed (while that might also categorically include what they did as a career). If I had suddenly died while editing Wiktionary, you might say I died the way I lived. But if I was shot in the head and was breathing just before I died, you wouldn't likely say I died the way I lived in reference to breathing. PseudoSkull (talk) 07:32, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

It's impossible for a person to live without breathing or eating, so we would not normally mention those in any context relating to "optional" things (e.g. we would not call them hobbies). Equinox ◑ 08:33, 12 June 2020 (UTC)
