Noun? The term is deviant. --Connel MacKenzie 08:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The 563 Google books hits for "a deviate" seem to support both a statistical and a sociological/psychological noun sense (a very few of these hits are possibly adjectival, but I'm not adding a def at this time, as the snippets available are hard to be sure of from context.) I've added cites at the article, and categorized as sociology and statistics. Jeffqyzt 14:18, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Whoops, I'll re-remove the tag, as I though I had whacked it with my cites additions. Jeffqyzt 14:18, 7 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Statisticians talk about deviates all the time. A deviate is anything that deviates from the mean; the standard deviation is computed using the normalized deviates, etc. —scs 16:53, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
