Pronunciation
[edit]@Ysrael214 Do you really think Tagalog speakers would naturally pronounce the Z there as /z/? Mar vin kaiser (talk) 13:48, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser Listened to news reports (i.e. about Barbie Forteza) and even PBA games. Manila dialect yes but with an allophone of /s/. But I got the pattern that the /z/ must be not near unvoiced consonants like Luzviminda (v is voiced), or not near voiced consonant clusters like (Cruz). For Legazpi, /p/ is an unvoiced consonant therefore it sounds off to have it as /z/ there. (Otherwise, if pronounced as /b/, the /z/ follows to be an /s/ so "lusbiminda"). However, for the word endings like "Martinez", the /s/ is more common but sometimes /z/ do occur there. Didn't put in the module anymore though. Also added that once /z/ was pronounced, people tend to default back to /s/ like "Zaragoza" becoming IPA(key): /zaɾaˈɡosa/, [zɐ.ɾɐˈɣoː.sɐ] Ysrael214 (talk) 13:55, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Ysrael214: I was specifically referring to the letter Z after /l/ like in this one. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:00, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Mar vin kaiser Hmm.. maybe /l/ shouldn't get the /z/ treatment. Ysrael214 (talk) 14:14, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Ysrael214: Yes, that's what I was getting at. --Mar vin kaiser (talk) 14:16, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
