Notes for Italiot Greek
[edit]Based on prior assumptions (β = v, τ = (sometimes) d, no breathing marks, c = κ), most likely δαμὰλι. Please check against Griko sources.
Unsure about etymology; not Italian or Greek in (obvious, anyway) origin. Elliott Dunstan (talk) 15:56, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
Update: I eat my words! Thanks to twitter user @KHLazarus - it *is* Greek, but it's more specific in Greek, and/or the meaning here isn't quite properly recorded; see Modern Greek, "δαμάλι • (damáli) n (plural δαμάλια) = calf". δαμάλι. NB: This also implies that the accent on this entry *might* be the wrong way around. It might also just be pronounced differently. Elliott Dunstan (talk) 17:07, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
