Looking for verification of the uncountable sense, a criminal in general as opposed to being found guilty in a specific case. I have read a lot of legal writing and can't recall ever seeing conviction used this way. "Conviction for domestic assault made him ineligible to own a gun." goes to the previous countable sense.
