"A person or group of people acting as the source of a country's constitution." MW has this word, but not in this sense, at least when necessarily worded this way. — SURJECTION ^{/ T / C / L /} 14:20, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

The use of the word "source" in the def is odd. Surely "framer" is a better term. This should definitely be findable with the tweaked definition. There is also a second sense in OED - a member of an 18th-century "Constitution Club" at Oxford. This, that and the other (talk) 23:43, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

RFV-failed. The OED's citation for its sense 1 (see in context) is talking about the Apostolic Constitutions (hence "Apostolical Constitutioners"), not a political constitution, but that book's usage appears to be unique in any case. Every other non-scan-error citation I found, including all the others at the OED, refers to the Oxford club. —Al-Muqanna المقنع (talk) 21:42, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

I've added what I could find in WP Library to Citations:constitutioner, some of the quotes might support a more general "one who frames a constitution" sense. Einstein2 (talk) 07:06, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

@Einstein2: I've tracked down and categorised each of those quotes, some of them are errors (e.g. the naval officer one can be corrected by comparing with the same story in other papers) but there is enough to justify a broad "framer or reviser" sense, which I've added. There are three quotations for something like a "supporter" sense but since two of them are specifically New Constitutioner/Old Constitutioner and the other is clearly a nonce word I think such a sense would be dubious. —Al-Muqanna المقنع (talk) 08:40, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
