Add topicAccording to the Real Academia Española. "Condescendiente" means someone that acts as an agreeably, consenting person. In that sense, it is more related to the archaic usage of the verb "condescend" in English and actually, antagonizing to the current use of being patronizing in offensive ways. I would say, being a bilingual Spanish-English user, that it is not advisable to say that "condescendiente" means the same as "condescending". It is a particularly weird case in which having the same Latin root the English language diverted from the Romance ones in meaning. In Italian "condescendere" means to consent, to agree (as in Spanish).
A similar case are the words "compromiso" vs. "compromise". In Spanish, "compromismo" is a totally positive concept meaning "commitment", while "to compromise" is somewhat negative, meaning to put sd in an unconvinient situation.
