Notes for 'cipo' Italiot-Greek etymology/script
[edit]Etymology is almost certainly from κῆπος , Dor.κᾶπος (garden, orchard) as put here http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/text?doc=Perseus%3Atext%3A1999.04.0057%3Aentry%3Dkh%3Dpos.
With that in mind plus previous assumptions (β = v, no breathing marks), Greek script is likely κιπο, however, there are multiple alternative spellings that require checking against Griko sources. Especially w/ original etymology in mind and w/out modern pronunciation on hand, full list of likely possibilities includes:
- κιπο
- κηπο (more likely transcription would be 'keipo')
- κιπω
- κηπω (keipo again)
