There's a comment in the page saying someone tried to find out what cabassou is called nowadays and failed. I don't know but this is what Webster's 1913 says:

A species of armadillo of the genus Xenurus (Xenurus unicinctus and Xenurus hispidus); the tatouay. [Written also kabassou.]
