Boteler
[edit]I can't find the reference but I think there was a reference to Boteler in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Can somebody correct me please? --Kittybriton 21:45, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Usage notes
[edit]The usage of butler to refer to a personal attendant is commonplace, though historically inaccurate. Traditionally and strictly speaking, a butler is the chief of household staff, not the personal attendant.
- I don't think these are usage notes. What's more, yes, meanings of words/terms do change over time. This just comes across like POV-pushing, an "in my opinion" thing. Mglovesfun (talk) 10:31, 11 December 2010 (UTC)
