[edit]If I want to provide an example to a definition, it sets the number of the following definition as 1. Here's an example:
- to make sure that one's young grow up to adulthood
- to keep animals and have them reproduce
- to yield or result in
- Disaster breeds famine.
- to propagate or grow eg. he's a tulip breeder.

I heard this form used by a well-educated American speaker, who spoke standard English otherwise. Context was figurative: "Their success breeded arrogance." Just a slip of the tongue or is this somewhat common? 46.183.103.8 17:56, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
