Etymology

Clearly to the modern ear, blow me is vulgar, but blow me down is not, since the first refers to a certain sex act while the latter gives us the mental image of someone physically falling over from just a very slight force, as in the idiom knock someone over with a feather. If blow me down is indeed derived from blow me, I'd say it's a curious example of a word serving as a euphemism for itself ..... but we'll probably never really know. —Soap— 07:03, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

Although according to blowjob, blow in the sexual sense is not known from before 1933, ... the 1873 citation is probably this, which makes no mention of anything vulgar, so either the author was a bit naive or there are two unrelated uses of Blow me! as an interjection. —Soap— 08:56, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
