What exactly is meant by "In written language, the unmarked form is knjižnica." ? biblioteka and knjižnica are not completely synonymous, BTW, the latter refers only to the institution where you borrow books from. --Ivan Štambuk 01:29, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Actually, "knjižnica" has also been acquiring the other meaning of "any collection of books" in Croatian for some time now, probably through grassroots purism. The remark about usage means that in written Croatian the unmarked (carrying minimal context information as opposed to its alternative forms) form of "library" is 'knjižnica'. 'Biblioteka' in written Croatian usually means a series of similarly-themed or otherwise connected books published by the same publisher, like "Biblioteka Vjeverica". --Elephantus 08:11, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I've also ran on few instance of knjižnica used in the computing sense of library, but that was really in some marginal purist cases. OK, I understand your note now, but that implies that the basic meaning of library ("unmarked", as you call it) matches that of knjižnica, which I didn't (and still don't) found straightforward, as it's used much more loosely in English. --Ivan Štambuk 09:57, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
