Surely this is a made-up word? — This comment was unsigned.
- Looking at http://books.google.com/print?q=beration, I'm inclined to think it is a false-friend from Dutch or German (or both?) --Connel MacKenzie 22:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
- It is a word; look up berate.

Act of rebuking or scolding (from berate?). I noticed how rare this seems to be while checking for existence of a plural. It does not appear in Chambers or Webster. Equinox ◑ 11:46, 26 August 2010 (UTC)
- Cited × 2. Google Books gets so, so many scannos of this that the only way it was bearable to cite was to search for "self-beration"; so to demonstrate that it's also used on its own, I cited it from Google Groups (which obviously doesn't have the scanno problem). I've tagged it (rare, perhaps nonstandard), by the way: the usual form is beratement, which we somehow lack an entry for. —RuakhTALK 13:50, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
