Authenticity

No proof is given that this word is or has been ever actually used in Ireland. I am from Ireland and have never heard it. For most Irish people, in my opinion, this word sounds like an American invention based on false impressions of how Irish people speak. Are there are any real sources to be referred to? Wiktionary covers use that may be dated or occur only in restricted circumstances. The term has been used by Irish authors in the 19th and 20th century as a look at Google Books would reveal. As with many older colloquial and dialectal expressions, written evidence of use is slim. It's continued popularity does seem more due to literary use in the Irish diaspora than anything else.
