  I'd never seen this before (in the U.S. we write (deprecated template usage) bail out), but apparently there's a distinction, or partial distinction, in some regions. It's discussed in Pam Peters, The Cambridge Guide to Australian English Usage,^[1] Cambridge University Press (2007), →ISBN, pages 83–4 (currently the only hit for google books:"These two spellings overlie several different uses of these words.").
