Nomination for deletion

[edit]

The entry has been recently nominated for deletion for a second time. I think this entry deserves to stay by virtue of it being the generic term for the dialect continuum used in the Malay archipelago, despite it being a sum of parts entry, as this term needs to be distinguished from "Bahasa Malaysia" and "Bahasa Indonesia" which are later terms derived for nationalistic reasons.

There are other terms such as the following that better fulfill the criteria as a sum of parts entry:

Note that "Bahasa Melayu" is the correct spelling for the term in the Indonesian language whereas "bahasa Melayu" is the correct spelling for the term in the Malaysian language. The first word is not considered a proper noun in standard Malay so "bahasa" is not capitalized unless it is used in the first word of a sentence. KevinUp (talk) 09:15, 6 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Since there are differences in spelling, it might be better not to create separate entries such as "Bahasa Melayu" for Indonesian and "bahasa Melayu" for standard Malay. KevinUp (talk) 17:15, 9 September 2018 (UTC)Reply
This entry will now redirect back to "Melayu". Note that "bahasa Indonesia" and "bahasa Malaysia" currently redirects back to "Indonesia" and "Malaysia" respectively. This entry can be recreated if future editors are willing to create Indonesian entries for "Bahasa Indonesia" and "Bahasa Malaysia" (only English entries exist for these terms as of Sept 2018) as well as standard Malay entries for "bahasa Indonesia" and "bahasa Malaysia" with no redirection.
