I have no citations, so I'm just putting this on the talk page: what about "baff" as slang, usually encountered as p.p. "baffed", presumably (danger: folk etymology at work here) derived from "baffled", commonly defined as "without a flipping clue" or "so out of it as to be absurd" when applied to a person, and "totally non-functional, SNAFU" when applied to an object.
