Very nearly vs very approximately

[edit]

I tried to explain that "very approximately", "very loosely" has a different meaning than "very nearly", "very close to" (the former indicates less precision, the latter more) but it all got deleted abruptly, just as I thought I was coming to a consensus. So someone else will have to try to do this. Wnt 19:02, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

"around" a synonym of "approximately"?

[edit]

"around" is listed as being a synonym of "approximately," but the page for "around" shows it as being a preposition when used in the sense of "approximately" while "approximately is only shown to be an adverb. For two words to be used as synonyms, don't they have to be the same parts of speech? 173.216.178.98 22:53, 6 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
