Uncountable?

[edit]

Wouldn't the plural be apathies? (Tinlv7 account from wikipedia) — This unsigned comment was added by 24.227.116.226 (talk) at 20:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC).Reply

Absolutely...except that we don't normally mark emotions plural forms, as the plural is only used in reference to multiple types of apathy. If one feels apathy towards politics, and apathy towards public transportation, they have apathy, not apathies. If psychologists study apathy, they might refer to the apathies of a particular class of patients, but I don't see that immediately attested. At any rate, the "uncountable" indicator should remain, even when "apathies" is added, and probably explained with a ===Usage notes=== section. --Connel MacKenzie 14:06, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Would not a link to the Wikipedia article on "Apathy" be advisable? (As it is in so many other definitions) This could allow readers to gain more understanding on the subject. — This unsigned comment was added by 76.166.141.133 (talk) at 18:56, 11 May 2009 (UTC).Reply
