Attested?

[edit]

@The Nicodene Is there a single Medieval Latin form that cannot be explained as a borrowing from early Old French? Kwékwlos (talk) 12:18, 2 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

@Kwékwlos Latin attestations from the ninth century (especially the early part) come early enough, in my view, to qualify as representing essentially Romance in its literary register. Nicodene (talk) 20:37, 11 February 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, since the term is found relatively late (in reconstruction and in attestation), we should move it on the mainspace (at least for the feminine form) Kwékwlos (talk) 10:22, 22 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Should we move it to the mainspace then? Kwékwlos (talk) 22:35, 5 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

But is the masculine attested? Nicodene (talk) 17:41, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Looks like only the feminine survived. Kwékwlos (talk) 17:46, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Only the masculine in Romance. Nicodene (talk) 23:05, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Then why would the 840 AD forms be French borrowings? Kwékwlos (talk) 23:51, 7 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Edit2: I don't know what happened there. Not clear to why there is a feminine gender involved at all. Nicodene (talk) 00:23, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Well, there's a feminine *halsabergu that may explain the 840 AD forms. Kwékwlos (talk) 11:07, 8 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
