Was marked for speedy, but I can find two uses in Google Books, so I wonder if it can be salvaged. Our def is most likely crap though. This, that and the other (talk) 12:15, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

There appear to be three more-or-less clearly distinct senses in the various citations I can find: 1) a bloviator, 2) a hopeless visionary (a person who "builds castles in the air" etc.), 3) literally one who trades in air. I'll have to go through and check which of these can be backed up with 3 citations. —Al-Muqanna المقنع (talk) 14:44, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Cited under one sense, which I've defined as "a hopeless visionary, a quixotic schemer". The 1684 quotation, which I initially read as just meaning a bloviator, apparently does have this meaning—airmongering comes up in connection with chameleons in another contemporary work, discussed here. I've added the two "literal" citations I found at Citations:airmonger, but since I'm fairly sure it's wordplay in both cases I don't think it's really a distinct sense. —Al-Muqanna المقنع (talk) 15:27, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
