Cleave

[edit]

Hi,

Shouldn't the example of "cleave" be removed or shown as a antonym? Sticking (adhere) is, after all, the opposite of splitting, separating, or cutting (cleave). Isn't it?

I've just added it as an antonym, but it's also a synonym: cleave has two opposite meanings. Scroll down to second part of cleave page. Equinox 12:43, 9 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Transitive usage

[edit]

Transitive usage definitely occurs, as per https://www.google.com/search?q="Adhere+the". For some reason, many of the first few hits give the exact same example (mentioning tiles and wallboard), but other examples can easily be found too. So probably at least one other sense should be added. And the usage note should certainly be amended. —DIV (2001:8004:44E1:26AD:8462:DBA5:94CF:32D2 06:03, 16 September 2024 (UTC))Reply
