From the RFV for abiectic

[edit]

Pertaining to fir trees. It sounds plausible but I can't see any evidence that it's ever been used. Widsith 22:39, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, It should be abietic according to the rules of Latin grammar. I find abietic in the OED and abietic acid in both Webster's and the Random House. --EncycloPetey 01:37, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've converted the page to a redirect (rather than delete it) because of a sufficient number of Google hits on the misspelling -- apparently the result of the spread from one of the storehouses of "weird words" that has since leaked out across the Internet. I don't think the original word is common enough to have "common misspellings". --EncycloPetey 01:41, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
