Pronunciation

[edit]

Perhaps we should include the famously weird possible pronunciations of ‘RYE-zlee’, ‘rose-Lee’ and ‘ROTT-slee’? Overlordnat1 (talk) 08:58, 14 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Russian has traditional transliteration of this rare name as Ризли [ˈrizli] with voiced [z]. Thence, I assume pronunciation with a voiced consonant in English was more common and should be also mention with other variants.

I misremembered what it said on the Henry Wriothesley page on Wikipedia, it said 'Rez-lee' not 'rose-lee' or 'roze-lee' but I've now added the information to the article. I can't find 'rizz-lee' there but that may be a vowel shift from 'rize-lee' that occurred when the word was borrowed into Russian from English rather than something that occurred in English itself, perhaps? --Overlordnat1 (talk) 13:10, 17 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
