Really?
[edit]Was it a mistake to describe this as a synonym of :D or is it actually used that way by association with the capital form? To me :d looks like someone enjoying a delicious meal. —Soap— 11:30, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, really. It's been in use for a long time in some chat environments and various video game chats. Though in my experience it's mostly the latter, so it's not really possible to provide quotes. It's most likely sourced from how capital letters worked in the chat of RuneScape 2, where a letter wouldn't be displayed as capitalised if it was preceded by a colon (or possibly any special character, I never tested that), unless it was the first letter in the message. So the message ":D" would be displayed as-is, but "sup :D" would be rendered as "sup :d". The chat system has been updated since and even OSRS doesn't retain this behavior, so ":d" is more rare nowadays. It's not really possible to say if it's intentional or a misspelling when used today, so some labels might be in order.
- There may be other meanings that aren't synonyms of ":D", but I haven't looked into it and I'm not aware of them. And with the rise of emojis, text-based emoticons in general aren't as common as they once were anyway. --Veikk0.ma (talk) 05:01, 2 October 2022 (UTC)
