The transliteration of this name is taken from Russian, not Slavic

[edit]

Czajkowski is the Polish spelling, Čajkovský is Czech, etc. Although Pyotr Tchaikovsky had a more Polish sounding name, the current transliteration is derived from Russian, not Polish, Czech, Serbo-Croatian and so on.

The Ukrainian spelling is very close to Russian: Чайковський (uk), cf. Чайковский (ru). If Tchaikovsky were a Ukrainian, then it would be fair to say "from Ukrainian". The Belarusian spelling is Чайкоўскі (be). --Anatoli 05:17, 21 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
