Dated?

[edit]

@Jberkel: Are you sure about that? DWDS qualifies it as "landschaftlich, besonders österreichisch, schweizerisch" (which seems dubious to me), however their own DWDS-Zeitungskorpus proves it to have even grown in popularity since the 1990s. Meanwhile, Duden attaches no label at all and Google Book has tons of hits in the 21st century. — Fytcha T | L | C 00:38, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Fytcha: I think it is dated in the general sense, but looking at the DWDS corpus it does seem to get used to talk specifically about Greek taverns. The gbook hits are mostly Dutch. – Jberkel 10:23, 25 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
I've separated the senses. In (northern) Germany, it refers to a Mediterranean kind of establishment (essentially translating non-German terms). But it seems that in the south it is used in a more general sense for an inn. Cf. Tafernwirtschaft. 2.207.102.51 14:33, 23 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
