To clarify Northern areas and to clarify that everything North of York is not defined as Geordie. A Geordie is someone born in Newcastle on the North Bank of the Tyne. There is 40 miles seperating Geordies and Smoggies with an intersperced tribe of MACHAM's in between. 2 distinct dialects eg. Geordies 'Hoy'(Throw) and Smoggie 'Yer Jokin arn Yer' (I find that impossible)

I have experenced a Manc calling me a Geordie. To a Smoggy this is a derogitory remark. When I called him a Scoucer he was offended.The reason for such an obscure retort!! Manchester is 40 miles from Liverpool. Middlesbrough is 40 miles from Newcastle.

Teesside?

@Theknightwho I saw you mention this term recently. Our entry here says Middlesbrough, but the WP article says Teesside, while mentioning that "originally, this was a term of abuse for supporters of Middlesbrough F.C." Any idea? Equinox ◑ 12:04, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

@Equinox I suspect it started off that way, but has since come to refer to the Teesside accent/dialect as a whole. To be honest, I don’t hear it that often, but it’s not any more derogatory than Geordie or Mackem as far as I know. Theknightwho (talk) 12:17, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
