I realize that this isn't the place to go copy-pasting Wikipedia's summary of said various positions, but this way it's pretty much impossible to give accurate translations. Paul Willocx 23:12, 9 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Invalid Translations

Definition 1 says "any of various" posts that fulfil different roles in different countries. So this would include for example the British use of the term "Secretary of State" to refer to any Cabinet minister. The Education Secretary or the Agriculture Secretary is an example of a Secretary of State in this sense. Yet many of the translations instead carry the specific meaning of "foreign minister". The given translation for Spanish says "Spanish: Secretario de Estado m (US), Ministro de Relaciones Exteriores m (other countries)", which would clearly lead to the UK term "Secretary of State" getting mistranslated.
