Verb
[edit]In colloquial, especially written English, this may also take the form of a verb: "I am RSVPing to your invite"; "please RSVP"; "He RSVPed", etc. This should probably be mentioned, but I'm not sure how so. Jnothman 10:36, 20 November 2005 (UTC)
- I've just been trying to figure this out. Seems like it's considered an irregular verb and thus "RSVP'd" and "RSVP'ing" are correct - one explanation being that this is done for acronyms to avoid confusion over pronunciation. Not sure that this makes sense, but I do find it odd to see lower case -ed and -ing put on the end of upper case acronyms.
- However, RSVPed & RSVPing are at least as common when I do a web search. Merriam-Webster and others give both options. --Chriswaterguy (talk) 03:41, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, some capitalised abbreviations become verbs: see IRCed for example. RSVP'ing with an apostrophe looks horrible to me but I suppose it could be justified. Equinox ◑ 03:44, 4 September 2012 (UTC)
