ROM vs read-only memory

[edit]

on Wikipedia pages such as w:flash drive, w:EEPROM, and w:ROM, there are hints that rewritable solid-state storage can be considered ROM, and it's not just a recurring mistake as I'd assumed. It even in one place says something like "ROM can become read-only memory" implying that the acronym has left its origin and they are two different things. Hence, I want to keep the two definitions separate despite their shared origin (and also the same with the OS-image sense). Soap 12:21, 2 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
