Translations

[edit]

Why are there translations for the Latin phrase? That's completely illogical. Scientific names for animals (Canis lupus, Homo sapiens sapiens, Felis catus, etc.) are in Latin, but they remain the same in all languages. Elfred 16:13, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Scientific names are truly international, which is why they appear under a =Translingual= heading. But phrases like this (in English, note) are surprisingly language-specific. This is used often in English, but if you were translating the etxt into French you would be crazy not to emend it to CQFD, which is the French equivalent. They are just far less likely than us to use the Latin. Ƿidsiþ 16:29, 1 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
