Dated? Or not in wide use?

[edit]

Dated? Or not in wide use? For instance, Neal Stephenson uses it in Snow Crash and Cryptonomicon. 67.198.112.131 18:05, 14 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Stephenson is writing fiction in some kind of alternate universe. Such fiction often uses dated or unusual words. Consider Pullman's Northern Lights trilogy where "electric" things are called "anbaric". Not dictionary mentionable. Equinox 08:46, 15 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
