Another dreaded phonology page

[edit]

What sound is this supposed to represent in the Hà Nội pronunciation for Tĩnh: ï? It is not found anywhere in the Wikipedia IPA key for Vietnamese. In trying to locate it in the linked Vietnamese phonology page, I get 1,000 results for the letter i because my browser search function ignores diacritical markings. The IPA keys are far more useful to the average user than an interminably long page on phonology that would probably only be enlightening to hardcore students of linguistics. And then please only use characters found in the respective IPA key! 68.193.141.193 15:08, 30 November 2024 (UTC)corphoReply

To answer my own question in looking outside of Wiktionary, it appears that i-umlaut represents a sort of glottal stop between two schwa sounds. 68.193.141.193 15:19, 30 November 2024 (UTC)corphoReply
